About Us
Martha Alexander’s grandmother, Nellie Boag, used to chide her misbehaving and impudent grandchildren by telling them not to be so cheeky. A common phrase in the United Kingdom and used freely by Martha’s Scottish relatives. We chose the name, “Cheeky Monkeys” in honor of Nellie.
We believe in tradition! Many of our recipes have been handed down in our families from generation to generation. Our Scottish shortbread is made using the same recipe that Martha’s great grandmother did well over a century ago.
Cheeky Monkeys Foods began operation in Goodrich, Michigan, in 2004. We made the difficult decision to close the Bistro in 2008. However, we continue to provide the same outstanding locally roasted coffees, fresh baked goods, unique lunches and dinner entrees with our catering menu. Cheeky Monkeys’ organic baked goods and fresh roasted coffees are also available at several local farmers’ markets.
Cheeky Monkeys Foods uses only the freshest ingredients. We handcraft each item. Absolutely no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives are used. We strive to utilize local, sustainable, organic and fair trade products whenever possible. We take the time to make things correctly, from scratch. No boxes or cans are opened to create our products.
On this website, Cheeky Monkeys’ offers a wide selection of handcrafted baked goods and locally roasted gourmet coffees. Our shortbread, scones, muffins, cookies, cakes, pies and cheesecakes are made fresh for each order.
